After a long career as a teacher Ian retired, completed an honors art degree at ANU-School of Art, and took up painting full time with his own studio at M16 Artspace in Griffith ACT. After solo exhibitions and group shows he was offered commissions to create interior murals.
He has used water colour sketches painted plein air as the source of his studio painting and children’s book illustrations. When he relocated to Jervis Bay he pursued his plein air paintings with Shoalhaven Plein Air Group.
Ian’s catalogue of paintings includes oil on canvas, water colours, and hand bound artist books from large scale to postcard size. Ian’s subject matter is focused on the brilliant colour and mood variations of clouds, and water as well the vast dry burning reds of central Australia.
